Cobra

On the longest night,
Egyptian
labyrinth traversed.

Fear wrestles tedium.

Pause...

...forehead on clammy
wall, catch breath...

Onward.

Fear wrestles tedium.

Discover!
At center,
dead center,
of Egyptian labyrinth!

Behold! Candlelit:

Golden cobra, coiled,
black slacks and rhinestone
sandals: ancient etching, matted
and framed, frozen forever,
forever frozen.

Mediterranean erases
shoreline traces.
Wash away, wash...

I lied. There was no cobra.

Darlin', I'm done.

Done
telling little stories
to you.

Turn on the TV.
